After a long break, I've decided to post again. I've been insanely busy as of late. The call volume at my IT helpdesk has skyrocketed the past week.
I was watching some random videos a friend posted when I came across this:
24 Rooms in a 344 Square Foot Apartment
This is an amazing use of technology to redefine space. As humans, we are constantly using technology to redefine the world around us. Hydroelectric dams are a great example of this. We have taken something that exists in nature, flowing water, and we are using it to power things we create. This is ingenious. However, it does have some negative impacts on nature. The flowing water must be altered to maximize pressure, and by building the dam itself the marine life are affected. A more eco-friendly example is wind-powered turbines. Other than clearing the land to build these, there is no further impact on nature.
Our focus on reshaping nature with technology has been causing great ecological harm for basically as long as humans have existed. Our solution to this harm? More technology.
I do want to note here that this topic reflects a position within philosophy that I do not 100% agree with, but I think is very interesting nonetheless. What do you guys think? Is it pointless to try to fix the damage caused by technology with more technology? Or can we outsmart nature to fix it?
